Greene King is one of the country’s leading pub and brewery companies, running over 2,900 pubs, restaurants and hotels in towns, villages and city-centre high streets across the UK. The centrally managed waste contract includes 1,750 sites.

Greene King required a long term solution to manage increasing costs and promote recycling across a complex estate. Challenges included; lack of consistency in reporting, collection time restrictions and changing behaviour in busy kitchens. Having achieved recycling success with Spirit Pub Group SWRnewstar was awarded the wider contract with Greene King in 2015 following the acquisition.

Solution.

Ongoing innovation is the key ingredient in Greene King’s partnership with SWRnewstar. In 2016 SWRnewstar managed over 150 supply partners to best match the pubs’ operational needs. In 2017 Greene King, SWRnewstar and K&N, implemented an industry-first system to backhaul recyclable materials and generate rebates. In 2018 SWRnewstar introduced an Account Executive to work closely with the pubs to drive best practice, increase recycling and further reduce costs.
